Luck Based 2 Player Game?

Main Post: Luck Based 2 Player Game?

Top Comment: I'm usually like your wife in my relationship - my husband destroys me at more complex strategy games. Our brief time with Netrunner was one of the most discouraging experiences of my gaming life. Mostly we play co-ops now, but a few competitive games work for me. Here are three that I have enjoyed (and win more often than I lose): Fox and the Forest is a trick-taking game that explicitly discourages large gaps with its scoring. You play 13 tricks, and if you win 10-13 of them, you lose the round. Sea Salt and Paper is a set collection/push your luck game that's quite luck based, with light strategy and short rounds. And its 2nd (tiny) expansion, Extra Pepper, adds an event deck that helps with gap closing. It's also very cute. If you want something with a bit more strategy, Radlands is a good pick. It's a dueling game with some fairly simple hand management elements. I'm not a very strategic player, but its possibility space is relatively small so I find it fun. You only have 3 points to spend on actions on an average turn, a small hand, straightforward goals, and a fairly compact set of possible actions. (Also, for what it's worth, luck being an element is helpful, but it's not particularly satisfying to win simply because of luck. If you can narrow down what actually works for your wife in these games, you might have more fun in the long run. For me with competitive games, it's a manageable possibility space, card rules that are simple enough to memorize or can at least be understood without tons of extra reference material, and fairly short rounds. I lack both the killer instinct and the attention span to be viciously strategic in longer games, but in short games I'm happy to go for the throat. So figuring out what makes your wife happy might make it easier to narrow down what games will work)

What are your favorite two player games?

Main Post:

I am looking for two player co op games, or games where you play together but not directly against each other (like Mario kart). Puzzle solving or platformers preferred, not into shooters. And where the two players are equal, not like galaxy where player two just collects stars. Thanks!

2 player games

Main Post:

Hey all!

So, we found that 1v1 tends to be quite boring. Coop is definitely better for us, but with 3+ players is where the game shines and everyone's against everyone.

Does anybody have any tips/homebrew rules for making 1v1 more fun?

It always feels like a really slow burner, until one person gets lucky and they just gain momentum and steamroll. We were thinking of starting with extra loots, maybe giving 1-3 free treasures or something.

Thanks!

Top Comment: 1v1 games are great! Do you use the Draft Rules ?

Here's what's happening with Game Two

Main Post:

So, at 12 o'clock today, a video will drop on the Game Two YouTube channel explaining what's up with GT. But if you wanna know now, here's the lowdown:

  • The new Game Two team is: Esther, John, Markus, Kuro & Jasper
  • We're on summer break until after Gamescom. At the latest, in September, there'll be the usual two videos a week on the channel
  • We'll keep doing stuff on Instagram too, as best we can
  • Trant wants to do his own thing and will be freelancing, making content that's not just about gaming.
  • Tim won't be part of the 5-person team, but he's staying with Beans Entertainment

Is Matthias leaving GameTwo?

Main Post:

In the current unplayable [game/stream/situation], Trant says that Matthias is no longer part of the team. Did I miss something? Was there an official announcement?

Top Comment: Matthias will be part of Kino+, as far as I remember. I think it was announced in the second to last episode.

Overall thoughts on game two

Main Post:

  1. Chet took a clear sophomore leap. My goodness, he's been strong/aggressive on offense, and stifling/elite on defense. I see flashes of KG in his game right now. The three pointer is obviously struggling, but his middy and FT are there, so there's no reason to think the 3 won't drop eventually once he finds his range.
  2. The defense is incredible. Even when we're not doing well on offense, we can stay in the game through defense. This would've been one of those heart-stopping, close games last year, and I almost never felt we were in danger this game. Great improvement on the other side of the court.
  3. Each game has left me less worried about our big's even with the injuries. A good part of that is Chet's leap, but a decent chunk has also been the fact that Ous hasn't been bad at all. He can make a bucket every so often, looks good on defense, and is pretty good on the rebound. I wanna see him do this consistently during this injury stretch, but the guy is putting together an argument for Kenny's minutes at the very least.
  4. The threes aren't looking as great so far from everyone, but its still only two games and I think we'll pick up soon.
  5. Shai seems willing to let things be a bit less heliocentric right now, and that's a sign of a great leader. Once he gets that 3 point percentage up, though, I think we'll still see his 31 even if he's not touching the ball as much.

Top Comment: Chet is crazy, once his threes are falling he'll probably be our second best player
